Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to complete all 6 lifts of the Supertotal in one day?
No! You can perform each lift on its own day, just be sure to record each lift and submit them, clearly titled.
What if I have another event planned during October?
If it counts toward the Crucible, it counts - submit your time, score (weight), or accomplishment to us via the submission area. As long as the modality can be scored (bike for a bike, run for a run, weight for a weight) we will count it.
How will I submit my Endurance run?
We will be taking Endurance submissions via Strava, to account for the Grade Adjusted Pace of each runner and cyclist. We want to encourage big runs and big challenges, so we'll be using GAP to create "projected" distance scores per hour for each runner. Also, I don't know why anyone would...ever do this...but we want to discourage 6 hours of downhill too.
Do I need to do kettlebell clean and jerks for all 30 minutes with no breaks?
Oh, my god, no. It's a 30 minute time cap, to complete as many repetitions as you can within that time, including any rests you need to keep your forearms from exploding. Switch arms, alternate sides, rest the kettlebell on your shoulder in the "rack" position or (against the Half Marathon rules) we'll allow a "hang." The second the kettlebell touches the floor, your attempt is complete. Pacing and strategy will remain important (as with all things CHP, we say studiously, while heading out to do something ridiculous and somewhat unplanned)
Can I bike/run/bike for the endurance challenge, or do a triathlon?
You're welcome to, but we won't be able to score it, unfortunately. In order to be considered for the top prizes, we'd need a straight run or straight bike - if the prizes don't matter to you, you can submit any 6+ hour event you complete in October and we will rank you the best that we can. If it's real gnarly, you may even get a "damn u crazy" award.
Where are registration profits being donated?
The California Wolf Center:
Do any of these need to be performed in a specific order?
Nope. We have a recommended order, but you don't have to adhere to it.
I don't know if I want to move for 6 hours straight, do I need to?
Nope. Just show us the distance you traveled in 6 hours via your submissions - you can do 2-3 shorter runs, a hike, a bike, whatever you want. Just needs to be completed within a 6 hour window - you don't need to move for all 6 hours. Do we want you to? Yeah. Do you need to? Nah.
I really want to do the supertotal, the wingate, the endurance, but I hate kettlebells with every fiber of my being.
Do a few clean and jerks and call it a day. We're not in the business of telling folks to do shit they hate - crush what you came here for, do your best, challenge yourself the way you want to. This is your race, we're just offering the platform. Obviously if you want to win this thing, the more points the better, but if this is a personal challenge, do what you feel satisfied with.
What are the top prizes for winners and runner ups?
